Getting rid of your voice recordings being added to your Music collection in Android phones

To me, my own voice recordings getting added to music collection in my Android phone is one big unwanted thing. Being a hobbyist song-writer, I always come up with tunes that I need to record. But I definitely don't want them to be a part of my music library. If you also feel the same, I have come up with my own trick (probably my first hack on Android) that will solve this issue. Its quite easy. If you're not aware, here's an interesting fact for you. If you place a .nomedia file in the directory of your media files, most photo-viewers, music & video players will ignore that directory & wont play them. So the idea is to copy .nomedia file to recordings directory & lo!! they wont be included in library. To look for a .nomedia file, open your phone's file manager & press settings. Tap to show hidden files. Now navigate to Whatsapp directory (it must most probably be installed on your phone) & look for a .nomedia file inside Profile Pictures directory. Just copy it to any folder (directory) you want to ignore! This one has been tested on Micromax Canvas HD A116's default / stock file-manager. If your Android device is other than this, you may need to figure out how to display hidden files. Same trick can be used for making your photo-viewers ignore a few certain folders you dont want to be showed up (e.g Cache files, Album artwork files & similar other unwanted media). You now have the idea of how to perform a simple hack to stop your media applications from accessing recordings & other unwanted media.

Ever wondered how to take a screenshot in your Micromax Canvas HD? There are times when we need to send an error report to app developer or some need arises to have screenshot ready for any sundry reason. What will you do if you have no such application installed? I have a solution. Just press your Canvas HD's power button & volume down button together & wait until it vibrates & click sound comes. Here you go. You have your screenshot ready! Being honest, I found this solution on this link. Credit goes to that person for this.

Note - This one is especially for Micromax Canvas HD phone. This might work for other Android phones as well. Haven't checked, though.

How to set your favorite sound clip as Message-tone or Notification-tone in your Micromax Canvas HD (A116)

Been using Micromax Canvas HD for past 3 months & loved it a lot. Its far better than my last phone (Samsung Galaxy Ace) & surprisingly I was cheaper by a margin of 10 INR!! But the thing that it lacks among a few other things (its still great, nonetheless!!!) is inability to set your favorite sound clip as Message-tone or Notification-tone. All it allows is to use pre-loaded sounds but not your own clip. So how to do it? Read on.

Just install ES File Explorer File Manager from Google Play Store. Open it, browse to the location where your sound clip is stored & then play it using ES Media Player. Tap the top-right icon and then tap Set ringtone. A pop-up will open. Choose what you want! You're done! For more info on ES File Explorer, click here.

My Favorite Free Music Players for Android

There are tons of music players available for Android that are actually worth installing. But the ones you will like to install are not free :( This includes some of the better apps like PowerAmp, DoubleTwist Player, PlayerPro, N7 Player, MixZing, Rocket Player & Neutron Player. Problem with all these apps is that they are either evaluation version apps or their free versions have limited features. This really makes us feel bad. I will post about 6 free music player apps for Android that you will love to have on your device.

1. JetAudio Basic : -

Probably the best music player for Android. Has got awesome sound quality & sound effects. Even if you want to upgrade to Plus version, it won't hurt you because its price is around 2 US $ only. Click here for full review.

2. Winamp : -

Winamp, we all have been using on our PC's since long. Winamp for Android does a good job too.

Its interface is good. Playlists can be managed easily. Sound quality is good if you have installed Equalizer app. Lock Screen widget & headset controls are there. Click here for more details on how to get the best sound.

3. RealPlayer : -

Though its UI is plain & it also doesn't have any equalizer or sound effects, RealPlayer can be installed & used if you're only concerned about listening to music. I recommend you install Equalizer app to boost your device sound. Lock Screen widget & headset controls are present for easy listening.

4. Cloudskipper : -

Has many features that you can enjoy for free, the most important being Sound Equalizer. Other features include Bass Boost, Reverb, and Virtualizer. Lock Screen widget is available. Music can be controlled using headset. UI is very cool.

5. Rocket Music Player : -

Has got all the required features such as Graphic Equalizer & Lock Screen. UI is really good. Gives a fresh feel. Light weight app weighing in at 3.4 MB. Playlist management is also good. Do give it a try. Here's my review.

6. ³ (aka Cubed) Music Player : -

If you're looking for a 3D UI in a music player app, go for Cubed. Though it doesn't have many features, its cool 3D interface compensated for that. Will download Album Art for you & display them in a 3D cube. Have it on your device & have fun.
