How To Find Hidden Files And Folder

Posted by Unknown Senin, 04 November 2013 0 komentar

I think many of us must have faced the hurdle of finding windows system hidden files and folders. For example I always forget the path of the hosts file hidden somewhere in the windows folder. Whenever I wanted to configure this particular file I have to always look for it by turning on the show hidden files and folders option from the folder options, and going through most of the windows folders. I always thought there must be an easier way to do this stuff and
find other hidden files and folders. And I finally found an application which makes finding the hidden files and folders a piece of cake.

How to use Revlit to find hidden files and folders

Revlit is an application which helps the user to find all the hidden files and folders on your computer or any specific drive or folder.
To search for a hidden file or folder using revlit, first run this small application. Then you’ll be provided with two option named Folders and Files. If you want to search a hidden folder choose the folder option and the other option for finding out the hidden files. After you choose either of these two options, you have to specify the path, i.e., a specific folder or drive, and then revlit will start searching for hidden files or hidden folders.  When the search is completed revlit will display a list of hidden files or hidden folders whichever option you choose earlier.
how to find hidden files and folders
As you can see from the two screenshots below, I tried revlit to find both hidden files and hidden folders on the same drive partition. The first screen shot of hidden folders.
how to find hidden files and folders
The second screenshot is of hidden files.
how to find hidden files and folders
Revlit is a very small application less than 140KB, and consume least CPU and memory resources.

Closing Words: The task for searching hidden files and folders may not be a difficult task for many users, but revlit makes it even easier. Also revlit makes the task of searching any hidden files or a folder in a particular system drive is an added and needed feature.

Microsoft hacked by same cyberattack as Apple and Facebook

Posted by Unknown Sabtu, 23 Februari 2013 0 komentar

Microsoft has revealed it is the latest high-profile internet company to have its computer system hacked.

Microsoft says it has become the latest major internet company to be targeted by hackers

The software giant said it experienced a "security intrusion"
similar to those suffered by social media site Facebook and technology company Apple earlier this month.
In a blog posted on its website, Microsoft insisted that there was no evidence of customer data being taken.
It said a small number of computers, including some of its Apple Mac computers – which are reputed to be targeted less by viruses compared to Windows computers.
Matt Thomlinson, general manager of Microsoft's trustworthy computing security team, said: "This type of cyberattack is no surprise to Microsoft and other companies that must grapple with determined and persistent adversaries."
Last week Apple announced it had been hit by malicious software, known as malware, which took advantage of a vulnerability in a Java program used as a plug in for web browsing programs.
Facebook said that the malware infected employee laptops even though they were running up to date antivirus software, and described the attack as "sophisticated"
Describing the attack on Microsoft, Mr Thomlinson said: "As reported by Facebook and Apple, Microsoft can confirm that we also recently experienced a similar security intrusion.
"During our investigation, we found a small number of computers, including some in our Mac business unit, that were infected by malicious software using techniques similar to those documented by other organisations.
"We have no evidence of customer data being affected and our investigation is ongoing."
Like Facebook, Microsoft says it is still investigating how malicious software was planted on what it said were a small number of its computers.
Online messaging service Twitter last month also revealed that hackers may have stolen information about 250,000 of its users. It said it was "not the work of amateurs".
The New York Times, Washington Post and Wall Street Journal have all accused China of attacking their computer systems

Facebook hackers attack Apple

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

Apple computers were attacked by the same hackers who recently targeted Facebook, but no data appeared to have been stolen, the company said in an unprecedented admission of a widespread cyber-security breach.

Apple, which makes the iPhone, said it would release a software tool to protect customers against the malicious software used in the attacks.
The maker of iPhones, iPads, iPods, and Macintosh computers said it is working with law enforcement officials to hunt down the hackers, who appeared tied to a series of recent cyber attacks on US technology firms.
"The malware was employed in an attack against Apple and other companies, and was spread through a website for software developers," Apple said in an email response to an AFP inquiry.
"We identified a small number of systems within Apple that were infected and isolated them from our network."
The malicious software, or malware, took advantage of vulnerability in a Java program used as a "plug-in" for Web browsing programs.
A "small number" of computer systems at Apple were infected but they were isolated from the main network, according the Silicon Valley based company.
"There is no evidence that any data left Apple," Apple said. "We are working closely with law enforcement to find the source of the malware."
Apple took the added steps of releasing a Macintosh computer operating system update that disables Java software that hasn't been used for 35 days or longer and a tool for finding and removing the malware.
Word of hackers hitting Apple came just days after leading social network Facebook said it was "targeted in a sophisticated attack" last month, but that it found no evidence any user data were compromised.
Facebook said Friday that the malware came from an infected website of a mobile developer and that "we remediated all infected machines, informed law enforcement, and began a significant investigation that continues to this day".
It was unclear whether it was the same website blamed for the attack on Apple.
The attackers used a previously unseen exploit taking advantage of a flaw in Java software made by Oracle, which was alerted to the situation and released a patch on February 1, according to Facebook.
The hackers appeared to be targeting developers and technology firms based on the website they chose to booby-trap with malicious code.
"Facebook was not alone in this attack," the Northern California-based company said. "It is clear that others were attacked and infiltrated recently as well."
Early this month Twitter said it was hammered by a cyber attack similar to those that recently hit major Western news outlets, and that the passwords of about 250,000 users were stolen.
"This attack was not the work of amateurs, and we do not believe it was an isolated incident," Twitter information security director Bob Lord said in a blog post at the time.
Lord said there was an "uptick in large-scale security attacks aimed at US technology and media companies".

The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal recently said that they had been hacked, and pointed to attackers from China.
Brazen cyberattacks on US media and technology firms revived concerns over Chinese hackers, who analysts say are likely linked to the secretive Beijing government.
China's army controls hundreds if not thousands of virulent and cutting-edge hackers, according to a report Tuesday by a US Internet security firm that traced a host of cyberattacks to an anonymous building in Shanghai.
Mandiant said its hundreds of investigations showed that groups hacking into US newspapers, government agencies and companies "are based primarily in China and that the Chinese government is aware of them".
The report focused on one group, which it called "APT1" from the initials "Advanced Persistent Threat".
"We believe that APT1 is able to wage such a long-running and extensive cyber espionage campaign in large part because it receives direct government support," Mandiant said.
The group, it said, was believed to be a branch of the People's Liberation Army called Unit 61398, and digital signatures from its cyberattacks were traced back to the direct vicinity of a nondescript, 12-story building on the outskirts of Shanghai.
China's foreign ministry rejected "groundless accusations" of Chinese involvement in hacking and also said China was itself a major victim, with most overseas cyberattacks against it originating in the US.
The Pentagon declined to comment directly on the report but said Defense Secretary Leon Panetta voiced US dismay over digital threats in his visit to Beijing last year.

Facebook hacked in 'sophisticated' attack

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

Facebook has revealed it has been targeted a "sophisticated attack" by hackers who exploited a previously unknown loophole in its computer system.

The internet company insisted that no personal information of users had been compromised by the hacking attack.
It said that malware had infected its computer systems after employees had visited the website of a developer of mobile applications  that was
"compromised".
In a blog post, Facebook said it was not the only company to have been attacked in this way.
The California-based company said: "Last month, Facebook security discovered that our systems had been targeted in a sophisticated attack.
"Facebook was not alone in this attack. It is clear that others were attacked and infiltrated recently as well."
Facebook said that it took immediate action to repair all infected computers once the malware was discovered and added that it had informed law enforcement authorities.
It is the latest in a number of sophisticated hacking attacks on high-profile websites and companies.
Twitter reported earlier this month that 250,000 user details, including usernames, passwords and email addresses, were stolen by hackers. It said it was "not the work of amateurs".
The New York Times, Washington Post and Wall Street Journal have all accused China of attacking their computer systems.
Earlier this week a report by US intelligence community concluded that the country was being targeted by a massive cyber-espionage campaign.
The National Intelligence Estimate, a classified report compiled by the US intelligence services, identified energy, finance, information technology, aerospace and automotive companies as the most frequent targets of hacking campaigns that appear state sponsored, according to The Washington Post earlier this week.
Facebook said that the malware that attacked its own systems used a previously unseen loophole, taking advantage of a flaw in Java software made by Oracle, a mobile developer.
The company said the malware attacked its employee laptops despite running up-to-date antivirus software. It added that it was continuing to investigate the threat.
A statement on its website said: "Facebook, like every significant internet service, is frequently targeted by those who want to disrupt or access our data and infrastructure.
"Foremost, we have found no evidence that Facebook user data was compromised."
It was unknown whether the cyberattack on San Francisco-based Twitter was related to the Facebook breach.

How to use Google Voice on Nexus 7 for making Free Calls in US ? – Nexus 7 Hack

Posted by Unknown Minggu, 19 Agustus 2012 0 komentar

Google Nexus 7 android tablet, special of its kind as it doesn’t support any call facility as HSPA or LTE data connectivity options are missing. As Nexus 7 is not like other tablets as we see in market like Samsung Galaxy Tab which supports making call facilities instead of that, Nexus 7 is a very basic android tablet which allows you to surf internet, play games, email your contacts, video chats on Skype/Gtalk. Supporting only Wi-Fi services, Nexus 7
users find it troublesome for making calls. Here is a solution, we will let you know a hack after which implementation you can use Google Voice now to Make / Receive Calls from Nexus 7.

Note that this hack only works on rooted Nexus 7 so do root it before you proceed with our hack guide. You’ll also be able to make free calls via Google Voice on Nexus 7 over Wi-Fi in US only.
This hack is 100% full proof working with no hidden secrets, you’ll be able to make calls i.e. incoming and outgoing calls free of cost on your Nexus 7 on Wi-Fi all over US. Now before you proceed let us tell you something, the steps for this hack are bit complicated so you follow them carefully and can take around 15-20 minutes for a professional to do.
Warning :-
You need a rooted Nexus 7 for this hack, so rooting will void your warranty. If any complications in your Nexus 7 arise due to below described steps, we shouldn’t be held responsible.

How to use Google Voice on Nexus 7 for making Calls  i.e. incoming and outgoing calls free of cost all over US ?

Suppositions :- User having a rooted Nexus 7 and a Google Voice account.
Issues :- All calls will be made with another number provided by the service we will use. We can’t use our number to make calls.
Configuring Nexus 7 for receiving  incoming calls :-
  • Process starts with setting up a VoIP account on CallCentric.com and then an account on ipkall.com (to get a free incoming number) which will allow us to receive VoIP calls for free of cost. When you are adding host name on ipkall.com while making account, note server is “in.callcentric.com”. After making account, you will get an IPKall phone number as: 253-802-XXXX
  • Download and install a SIP app on your Nexus 7 i.e. CSipSimple from Google Play store. After installing app, set it up with the CallCentric.com account, kindly use your “Username” as your number on CallCentric.com
  • Now add the number got from IpKall on your Google Voice account (open Google voice account on your PC) under settings option as “Add a new number“. Number verification will be done and and your tablet will ring up.
Set up for receiving  incoming calls on your Nexus 7 is enabled, lets work on making outgoing calls.
Configuring Nexus 7 for making outgoing calls :-
  • Download and install Voice+ (Google Voice callback) from Google Play store and connect it with your Google Voice account.
  • Download and install exDialer from Google Play store.
  •
Nexus 7 Hack begins now…
  • Download “ framework-res editor” and extract it on your Nexus 7. Name folder as “place-framework-res-here
  • Using a file explorer, navigate to /system/framework there you’ll find “framework-res.apk”. Copy the “framework-res.apk” file and place it in folder  “place-framework-res-here”.
  • Now go to folder “place-framework-res-here” and tap on the app “run me” to recompile your framework-res.
  • Tap on folder “files-to-edit” and perform following operations “framework-res.apk>res>values>bools”.
  • Now we will edit the bools.xml file. Open the file and search a line “line false”. Change the value false assigned to “True” and save the file.
  • Now again app “run me” and recompile a fresh apk.
  • Now Choose option “3” to sign the apk.
  • Now choosing option “4″ will create an update.zip file.
  • Copy and transfer this update.zip file to “/sdcard” directory of your Nexus 7 tablet.
  • As you have a rooted Nexus 7, reboot into CWM recovery and browse to “ install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard > update.zip”. Select option “Reboot” now.
As there are lots of awful steps above and still we are using a different number to make calls is somewhat annoying. We have a back up solution which can also be used to make calls from Nexus 7 but they won’t be free.
Alternative Solution to make calls via your phone number on Nexus 7 :-

  • Download and Install app “Tablet talk”.
  • This app allows you to make calls over Bluetooth, so no Wi-Fi needed as long as your phone is in Bluetooth range it works fine.
  • Number dialer and ring tones already set up.
Now your Nexus 7 is fully enabled to make calls i.e. incoming and outgoing calls free of cost using Google Voice. As above steps are bit complicated so if you face any issues, kindly let us know, we will get back to you shortly.

Speed Up Your Web Browsing In A Few Clicks: A Brief Introduction To DNS

Posted by Unknown Selasa, 05 Juni 2012 0 komentar

Every millisecond counts when you’re browsing the web, and if you’d like to eke a bit more speed out of your internet connection, you can change your DNS server to make those
pages load a bit faster. Here’s a brief introduction to what DNS is, how it affects your connection speed, and how you can easily change your computer’s settings to use the fastest DNS possible.

What Is DNS and How Does It Influence My Internet Speed?

Computers use IP addresses to connect to one another. IP addresses are a series of numbers that act as digital addresses that allow computers to send information back and forth. Those long strings of numbers are easy for computers to remember, but human beings aren’t made to store long strings of digits. We are, however, really good at remembering names. That’s where DNS comes in.
When you type a web address in your browser, your computer routes that the domain address through what’s called a Domain Name System (DNS) and turns, for example, the human-friendly web address http://www.enggcoded.blogspot.co.in into a computer-friendly IP address, like  199.59.241.218. Essentially, DNS is what allows you to use easy-to-remember site URLs — like “enggcoded.blogspot.co.in” — rather than memorise a bunch of IP address.
Every internet service provider usually has their own DNS server, but it’s not always be the fastest. Often, the fastest DNS server is the one that’s physically closest to your location. If you switch to a faster one, that means it looks up those IP addresses and gets you where you want to go faster than before. It may not seem like a lot, but when a page has to load things from a handful of different sources — like, say, advertisements or videos — it can add up.
Third-party DNS servers can also have other perks, like content filtering. We’ve talked about alternate DNS servers before, like OpenDNS and Google Public DNS, but if you want to find out which one’s right for you, you can do so with a simple program.

How to Determine and Set Up the Fastest DNS Server for Your Connection

On Windows: You can change Windows’ DNS settings deep in the Control Panel, but the free DNS Jumper makes it a lot easier:
  1. Download DNS Jumper, and extract it to any location on your hard drive. It’s a portable application, so there’s no need to install it — just start it up.
  2. If you know what DNS server you want to use, pick it from the drop-down menu or type it in the boxes at the bottom. If not, hit the “Fastest DNS” button on the left. It’ll check a number of different servers to find out which one is the fastest for you.
  3. When it’s done, click the “Apply DNS Servers” button to use the fastest server.
Sometimes, your ISP’s default DNS server really is the fastest, but other times, it could be something else, so even if it ends up being the ones you already use, it was still worth running the test to find out. When you’re done, you can delete the app or file it away for future use.

On OS X: If you’re on a Mac, you can try a utilityNamebench. It isn’t quite as fast as the Windows alternative, and you’ll still have to apply your DNS settings manually, but it works:
  1. Download Namebench and start it up. Again, you don’t need to install, just double click on it to run it.
  2. Make sure the top two checkboxes are checked, and choose your location from the “Your Location” dropdown menu. Then, hit the “Start” button to run the test.
  3. Once Namebench returns a result, mark down the IP addresses it lists and head to System Preferences > Network. Choose your network connection from the left (AirPort if you use Wi-Fi, Ethernet if you use Ethernet), and hit Advanced. Go to the DNS tab.
  4. If the IP addresses in the left pane are different than the ones Namebench found, select them and hit the minus sign below them. Then, click the plus sign to add new servers. Use the two IP addresses that Namebench came up with, and then close System Preferences.

Again, you may find thatyou’re already using the fastest DNS server, but if you’re not, this can give your web browsing a minor speed boost.
This process won’t make your internet twice as fast or anything, of course. If your internet’s slow as molasses, it’ll probably still be pretty slow after this, but it should shave a small bit of time when loading pages–and us internet junkies know, a few milliseconds can make a difference.

    Firewall administration

                                                                             Firewall

In my previous two articles I showed you how to secure your LAN and WLAN. In that i had mentioned the firewall factor. In this article I am going to show you the uses of firewall and its administration. Firewall Administration is ensuring the proper management, configuration, and change management of it.It is comprised of controlling access to the platform, platform operating system builds, log reviews, time synchronization and backups.Hence firewall is very important in a network. Some of the advantages and uses of firewall are as follows.
    • The main and the most important factor of firewall is your computer security. It gives a sence of a secure connection of your computer.
    • The most inexpensive and security tool.
    • You can monitor incoming and outgoing security alerts and the firewall company will record and track down an intrusion attempt depending on the severity.
    • Some firewalls are also useful as they detect viruses and worms.
    • All firewalls can be tested for effectiveness by using products that test for leaks or probe for open ports.
    What is firewall administration ?
Personal firewall software is designed to prevent connections between the network and your computer, except for programs that the firewall software knows that they are not infected.
    • Network Magic needs to make network connections to set up sharing and check for updates, your firewall software needs to allow these connections.
    • Network Magic is permitted to make outbound communications.
    • Inbound communication from other computers running Network Magic is permitted to get past the firewall to Network Magic.
    • Outgoing communication: Most software firewalls have settings for specific program control.
As we say that any coin has two opposite sides firewall also consists of some of the disadvantages like:
    • Firewalls cannot protect you from internal sabotage within a network or from allowing other users access to your PC.
    • Firewalls cannot edit indecent material like pornography, violence, drugs and bad language. This would require you to adjust your browser security options or purchase special software to monitor your childcare’s Internet activity.

The 10 Best Free Anti-Virus Programs

    Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

This article really needs no introduction. There are many free anti-virus programs on the market, and you want to sort the wheat from the chaff. Fair enough. Documented here are the 10 best antivirus programs on the market.
While I won’t attempt to rank the programs here (in many ways the programs can’t be compared), I will attempt to give you an idea of under what circumstances they will be useful.
The order here for the 10 best antivirus programs  is mostly random, so be sure to read every entry if you want an idea of what will work for you.

    Microsoft Security Essentials

    10 best antivirus programs
Released by Microsoft in late 2009, Microsoft Security Essentials sports more than a typically verbose Microsoft name: it’s also a really good antivirus. Lightweight enough to run on older machines without crippling their performance, yet competent enough to handle most viruses and malware out there.
Perhaps the best part of MSE is its simplicity. As you can see, the user interface is really clear, with large buttons for the most basic functions. This is important if you’re setting it up on a computer for someone who is not computer-savvy.
Finally, MSE is completely free – there’s no professional version you can upgrade to. In fact, it’s even permissible to use in business situations, meaning you can use it at work without breaking the law. This alone sets it above most of the other selections for the 10 best antivirus programs.
     download MSE here.

    AVG Free

This one recently topped our Movers and Shakers list of the top downloaded free anti-virus programs. But just because AVG is popular doesn’t mean it’s not great.
AVG has become synonymous with free anti-virus, and there’s a reason for this: AVG offers complete malware protection, with considerably less bloat than the top pay-to-use antivirus clients. And while AVG Free does constantly remind you that you could pay for the professional version of the program, it does this without ever getting in the way of the program’s core purpose: protecting you from viruses.
    10 best antivirus programs
Though when it comes to upgrading one version of AVG to another, you need to make sure you’re good at reading what’s on screen, because the free download is only available via a tiny link at the bottom of the screen””the site really wants you to get the paid version. When upgrading to version 9 recently, for example, check out how hidden the free download was:
    10 best antivirus programs
Not exactly a big link, is it? Figure this minor inconvenience out, however, and AVG is a a really good free anti-virus. Download AVG.

    Avira Free

    free antivirus programs
In terms of simplicity, Avira’s right up there with MSE. It’s fairly lightweight, too, so the comparison is quite apt. While Avira does have a paid professional version to peddle, much like AVG, it’s not quite as aggressive as AVG in peddling it. I’d say Avira is solid and worth looking into for sure. Download Avira Free here.

    Avast! Free

If this competition were for the coolest name, the piratey Avast! would win hands down. Even though that’s not what we’re discussing, Avast! stands up pretty well. This is one of the top free anti-viruses on the market, and for good reason: it’s remarkably complete. Expect great all-around protection, including against trojans and spyware. You can also expect constant reminders that there’s a free version you can upgrade to, on your desktop and in your inbox. Still, the protection is solid.
    Download Avast! here.

    Malwarebytes

    free antivirus programs
Whatever your default anti-virus is, you need Malwarebytes too. This program doesn’t run in your system background and constantly protect you, but when you run into a problem running Malwarebytes will usually take care of what other programs can’t. I’ve saved more than a few unbootable systems by running Malwarebytes from safe mode. This program takes care of any form of malware you throw at it, so keep it around. In fact, I’d keep this one on your flash drive in case you ever need to fix a computer for a friend (and if you’re reading this blog, you probably will).
    Download Malwarebytes.

    ComboFix

Consider this the nuclear option. If you know you’ve got a virus, but your usual anti-virus program can’t handle it, and Malwarebytes can’t handle it, it’s time for ComboFix. This program isn’t friendly: it runs from a command window and is proud of it.  And this is not a program you should use if you don’t know what you’re doing, because it can have devastating effects in the hands of the uneducated. But when all else fails, ComboFix delivers. Every geek should have this one on their keychain.
    Download Combofix.

    Clamwin

    free antivirus programs
Clamwin is the Windows version of ClamAV, the main Linux anti-virus on the market. ClamWin is flawed in many ways: it simply scans instead of offering real-time protection, it doesn’t really do non-virus malware and it’s not exactly easy to use. Still, having ClamWin around doesn’t cost anything, and you can never have enough scanning tools in your arsenal.
Download ClamWin and see if you like it.

    Panda Cloud AntiVirus

    totally free antivirus programs
At first I thought the idea of a cloud-based antivirus was stupid, because it would only work while I’m online. Then it occurred to me: why the heck do I need an anti-virus when I’m offline?
As the name suggests, Panda Cloud Antivirus stores its virus definitions online. There’s an upside to this: your definitions are always up to date. There’s a downside, too, however: your anti-virus is constantly making use of your network connection.
I’d say this is a really good idea for underpowered PCs with constant access to the net. Like, say, a netbook. But if you’ve got a netbook you shouldn’t be using Windows anyway; switch to Jolicloud and you’ll have a functional netbook operating system immune to practically every virus.
download Panda Cloud Antivirus if you’re interested.

    Comodo Firewall + Antivirus

Comodo is best known for its free firewall, but it also offers a bundled firewall and antivirus program. While the Comodo firewall isn’t the easiest to use, and the antivirus doesn’t include protection for non-virus forms of  malware, this one’s worth mentioning if you’re looking for a free security suite which includes both a firewall and anti-virus protection.
    totally free antivirus programs
    Download Comodo Free here.

    Common Sense 2011

This one’s unusual in that it’s free and considered by far the best protection out there, yet can’t be downloaded anywhere. Without it, however, even the best security software is rendered useless.
If you haven’t already figured this out, Common Sense 2011 isn’t a product you can download so much as it is a state of mind. If you’re going to be free of viruses and malware you need to use your head while browsing the web. The most important thing to remember is this: if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is””and your computer will probably be compromised.
Free porn usually isn’t. Warez are best to be avoided altogether. Nigerians that need your help transferring money are never actually princes or princesses. You get the idea: avoid shady sites online and you’ll find you’ll get far less malware on your machine.

    Conclusion

There are a lot of great free anti-virus programs out there, but what you use is mostly a matter of preference. Myself, I use Microsoft Security Essentials on my Windows machine because it’s free, lightweight and will never ask me for money. But I also make sure I always have Malwarebytes on my thumb drive for quickly removing viruses and malware from the computers of friends and family.
What about you? Which free anti-virus do you prefer? Commenting is good for you, so do so!
