How to know when your e-mail has been read in Gmail?

Facebook offers a feature that allows for knowing when your message has been read by the recipient. When that person opens (not just sees) your messages, you will see a "Seen" label alongwith the time when it was seen. Similar feature is highly useful when we need to know if the message has been read or not. Why? We all have different reasons for it, you justify it yourself.
Today I chanced upon a website that offers a Chrome Add-on that lets you do it. Go to www.boomeranggmail.com & install the Add-on. Below is what it looks like.

Now start writing a new mail & in that box, you will see an icon in the bottom right that looks like an open envelope with a question mark. Click on it to enable it. It will turn blue. This is what requests the read receipt.

That's it. Type your message normally & Send it. You'll receive a mail from Boomerang that your mail has been read when the person opens it. It works even when the mail is read off mobile device. It will also show how many times it has been opened. Boomerang also allows you to schedule your messages.
