Look out, Nexus 7: iPad mini coming this year, report claims

Apple will release a 7- or 8-inch iPad that will disrupt the low-end tablet market before the end of the year, a new Bloomberg report claims.
We’d heard previously that Apple was purchasing 7.1-inch screens for smaller iPads and later, John Gruber — Apple’s biggest fan — said a 7.85-inch iPad was being developed.
But while those rumors have been fun to speculate on, the prospect of the “iPad mini” has never been more believable than it is now because of the Google Nexus 7 tablet. The $200 Nexus 7 is the best Android tablet we’ve seen yet, and it beats out the Kindle Fire, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, and other 7-inch tablets with its powerful hardware, Google Play access, and Android 4.1 “Jelly Bean” operating system.
Bloomberg’s report also notes that the iPad mini will not feature a Retina display in order to keep costs down and says it will likely debut in October, which is when is when we expect Apple to announce the next-gen “iPhone 5.” An iPad mini would most likely carry a price between $200 and $300 to stay competitive.

Google sells out of 16GB Nexus 7 tablet

Google has stopped taking new orders for the 16GB model of the Nexus 7 tablet in the Google Play store, a sign Google did not prepare for the tremendous demand the device has attracted thus far.
The Nexus 7 has seen much interest since it was introduced about a month ago at Google’s I/O
conference. Since then, Google has clarified the timing on when preordered Nexus 7 units would arrive on people’s doorsteps. Google had said 16GB model could take one to two weeks to arrive, but now it can’t even be purchased online from Google at all. Instead, you can input your e-mail address and Google will notify you when it will be available.
For those who haven’t been paying attention, the Nexus 7 is a stunning 7-inch tablet that re-writes the rules on what a $200 slate can offer. It runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, has access to the Google Play store for music, movies, and TV shows. Additionally, it features a quad-core Tegra 3 processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 1,280-by-800 display. It could be disruptive to the iPad’s total dominance, so much s0 that Apple is reportedly working on a 7.85-inch “iPad mini.”
The 8GB model is still available for purchase, and the sale page says it will ship in three to five business days. It appears Google was preparing for sustained high demand for the $200 8GB model, but not for the $250 16GB model.
The popular tablet is also available at various retailers, including Staples, Sam’s Club, and GameStop. Some third-party online retailers claim to have the 16GB unit in stock, but most of them say the device is temporarily unavailable.
We’ve contacted Google to get official word on when the 16GB Nexus 7 will be available for sale again.

BBC Olympic is the new and first app on Android and iPhone developed by BBC. “The app adds even greater value to the BBC Sport mobile experience, ensuring you never miss a moment of the Games.” Says one general manager from BBC. It offers you direct coverage of the Olympics from the UK, and also allows you to follow all the actions, with daily live text commentaries, breaking news and top stories from all the key events and medal moments. Each of the 36 Olympic sports, every athlete and country has their own page with medal tallies, news stories and key facts. Moreover, you could get minute-by-minute live text commentary during the live action, comprehensive schedule and results service which help you stay in touch with all the Games and results as they happen. In addition, it also has the function of sharing stories, videos and results on your social networks.

However, nothing is perfect! Its IOS app only can run on iPhone, not iPad. Even though its android version is for handsets with OS 2.2 or above, the users need to install flash to be able to watch videos! What a disappointed! If the BBC Sport app wants to become a serious competitor to others then there should be a need for an iPad and non-flash video functionality.
